On Blogging
A new semester begins, and my experiment with the pedagogical use of blogs continues.
The first step towards building a blog is to select some service for your on-line journal. The three that I have some experience with are
www.blogger.com (I've used it to write this blog, probably the most flexible of the free services.)
www.joeuser.com (students from a previous class have used this service with some success. The community is quite exuberant, you will attract comments from other users.)
www.livejournal.com (The hippest service here. A very active but somewhat insular user community.)
The above services are all free, at least as of this moment. One could also invest some money in setting up a blog, though I can't see a good reason to do so at this moment. If you're interested in going ad-free and deluxe, you may also want to take a look at
Movable Type,
Typepad or
Radio, I have no direct experience with either of these, though Radio looks pretty sweet.
More on blogging, and more philosophy, when I get back from my sister's wedding.
